Welcome to my story

Hello! Thank you for checking out my artist website!

Here, I’ll be sharing the stories of my struggles, lessons, themes I see emerging in my life and art, and the victories along the way.

The current progress as of writing this welcome card of a blog post on a Van-Gogh-inspired giant tree. It will eventually have a tiny civilization nestled within its roots. I'm so thankful for the skylight that shines on this spot in my little studio space above the gallery at Cultivate 7Twelve.

As I talk more and more about my art, I see more themes emerge that align with symbolism for realizations I’m having. Often, my friends can relate to the metamorphases I’m experiencing, so I wanted to have a place where - if people were interested - they could dive deeper.

For example, with my Vengeful Hope Series (available in my Portfolio), the theme of that season of life, which became even more clear in retrospect, was a return to hope after a season of weariness from the world.

“Toward the beginning of 2024, I felt like I was able to take a breath and get my feet under me. Something was clicking with my habits and routines, and I felt more connected to the joyful and peaceful aspects of nature, even given the threats our world is facing. I felt a confidence in nature’s strength and decided to - in many aspects of my life - allow myself to give into hope. I suppose that’s faith, not being sure if the confidence you want to feel is founded, but deciding to believe it anyway. Though that theme was pervasive through many aspects of my life, I felt like nature’s resilience and a return to nature was fitting imagery for this era of my life. Throughout that series of drawings, you can see creation depicted as a guardian creature, Mother Nature, or nymphs personifying elements of nature. They are usually protecting or overcoming, showing the beautiful, terrifying, awe-inspiring, destructive power of nature.”

My husband was going on this journey with me at the time through his own experiences, and my sister Ailsa was writing her senior thesis on Environmental Messaging, arguing that individuals can make a difference collectively with our actions and voices, so we need to be cultivating hope rather than over-cynicism. Maybe I’m learning things and growing in an entirely different way than you, but I have a feeling most of you enjoy talking about these kinds of things anyway!

I’m hoping for weekly posts because I have so many ideas for things to share! I’m thinking a cycle of monthly recaps, work-in-progress features, the theme for my personal journey symbolized throughout my work, and literary references.
