Hey there!

I’m Liz Anne Thomas.

If you like my art, its meanings, or what I post about on social media and you want to learn more about me, you’re in the right place.

Here’s my story.

Who I am:

I’m an artist, illustrator and art teacher based out of Waco, Texas, who’s inspired by nature, folklore, and femininity.

After going through a very dark time, I decided to re-evaluate my purpose: why I’m here on earth and how I want to spend every precious moment without influence from others’ expectations. I’m here to serve and spend time with my loved ones, to enjoy the little moments (especially in nature) to the fullest, and to leave behind beauty for the future. That last one is a lofty goal, to have an artistic legacy that lasts longer than my own life and that adds to the Great Conversation, but it’s something to work towards.

I feel a deep kinship with Van Gogh for many reasons, especially because - given how dark his life was - he always seemed to reach for the moments of joy and wonder found in nature. At the very end of his life, he sent his newborn nephew this almond blossom painting, looking up at the branches from below so he could enjoy it from his crib. Even before knowing its story, I got it tattooed on my shoulder. I get my inspiration from many master artists, but Van Gogh is close to my heart.

See my blogposts for more musings like this.

Where I’m from:

Growing up, I attended a classical school which is heavily influenced by Charlotte Mason. I read countless “living books”, conducted nature studies, dove into original texts and classic literature, learned Latin and focused on philosophy, logic and rhetoric, memorized poetry, practiced advanced artistic techniques, all while applying those ideas through environmental sustainability projects and serving the community. I am indescribably thankful for my education and how it equipped me to be a whole person (in addition to equipping me to succeed academically in the future). I believe the education I received was so nurturing that I now teach at the same school, passing on those principles, virtues and habits to the next generation.

Some things from my upbringing have woven their way into my art because they’ve been woven into my heart. The Central Texas landscape shows up as native foliage and creatures, and you may see references to Wendell Berry, Greek Mythology and Jane Austen, pieces of my education that enamoured me as a child.

Where I’m going:

Upcoming exhibitions, art markets and meetups will be on my Collector Newsletter.

Sign up for my personal and artist newsletter to become one of my Collectors. I want to create a community of people who have my inspiration and style in common. This will be the primary way I communicate with people who are interested in my work (not just for its purchase!) or who want to support me. I will be giving updates on various series, sending you my blogposts when I publish a new one, and giving you exclusive announcements about future events and pieces that are not included in the blogposts. If there are any giveaways or invitations to send, my Collectors will be the first I invite!
